Hemyock Castle

Heritage Open Days 1998 in Hemyock, Devon.

On Sunday 13th September 1998, from 2 to 6 pm, Hemyock Castle and Village again took part in this hugely popular celebration of culture and heritage. Full Press Release.

Hemyock Castle is set in the now tranquil Culm Valley in Devon, England, just a few miles from the M5 Motorway and Taunton. The site is a scheduled Ancient Monument.

Special events on Sunday 13th September 1998 from 2 to 6 pm included:

• Hemyock Castle:
  • Special Display of Crafts and Photographs from Southern Sri Lanka, by members of the Janashakthi Bank micro credit union.
  • Castle Tours.
  • Meet the "Sutton Family" (re-enactment group).
  • Village Trail includes:
    • Historic Landmarks.
    • Ornate Village Pump.

• St Mary's Church:
  • Ancient Tithe Maps and Tithe Apportionments.
  • Historical and Photographic Displays.
  • Tower Climbs.
  • Tours.
  • Teas.
  • Evensong at 6.30 pm.

All were warmly invited to Evensong in St Mary's Church at 6.30 pm.

Hemyock Castle is a scheduled ancient monument, normally open for public tours on Bank Holiday Mondays (2 to 5 pm) between Easter and September or at other times for schools and groups.

Comfortable self-catering accommodation is available within the Castle grounds.
An excellent touring centre for coasts, beaches, towns and moors.
